Experienced Prepress Operator – Flexible Packaging

We are seeking a dependable and motivated individual to join our Pre-Press Department as an experienced flexible packaging Prepress Operator. This full-time role plays a key part in preparing jobs for the HP digital presses for flexible packaging ensuring high production quality. This does not entail graphic designing.

Key Responsibilities or Essential Functions:

  • Ensure digital files are optimized for printing, including color conversions, file formats, and resolution for HP digital presses.
  • Print file preparations with creating die lines for artwork placement
  • Create templates for customer artwork as needed
  • Preflight incoming artwork for print/separation issues, colors, and print quality.
  • Approving the digital proof (PDF)

Job Skills Needed

  • Knowledge of digital print processes and DFE’s
  • Experience with HP presses
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Create Suite, Illustrator using MAC OS
  • Knowledge of file conversions, proof & press alignment, color conversions and color management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to change direction efficiently
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Reliable in meeting deadlines and time management
  • Willingness to work extra hours on occasion

Job Experience

  • 2 plus years of Prepress experience with digital printing on flexible packaging substrates required
  • Knowledge and understanding of different substrates used for pouching

Experienced Printing Press Operator – 2nd Pressman

Summary:
Reporting to the Press Lead Operator, The 2nd Press Operator will assist in the responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment while respectfully working with a team under the supervision of the Press Lead to set-up & run an inline finishing web offset press to produce high-quality printed product as efficiently as possible. As a 2nd Press Operator, you are not only concerned with the quality and quantity of daily production, but also with learning the Lead Press Operator position. You will be responsible for helping and training crew members in the jogger and roll tender positions.

What You’ll Do:

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all safety & housekeeping procedures related to press and crew.
  • Prepare the press and assist the Lead Operator in making any needed adjustments (i.e., color, registration, folds, perforations, mounting plates, paper change, color change, etc.). Learn how to set-up up the Rotary Cutter.
  • Examine job tickets to determine quantity, stock, colors, packaging and any special printing instructions.
  • Prepare proper and accurate paperwork.
  • Visually inspect press impressions, checking quality & details necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance tasks regularly to keep equipment in good working condition and report maintenance and safety concerns when they arise.
  • Organize work area, maintaining a safe & clean environment with everything in its place.
  • Work with the Lead Pressman in problem solving and work with team members to find solutions.
  • Assist in press inline make ready (set rotary cutter, folding plows, gluers, units).
  • Ability to learn light mechanical (such as roller setting, roller changes, and bearing changes).
  • Learning to match and replicating proofs (matching color and watching register) by means of the computer console.
  • Proofing jobs for imperfections.
  • Responsible for filling ink fountains, gluers, roll changes, stacking, using a fork truck or hand truck and assisting other team members as needed.
  • Occasional press maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience on an offset printing press or 2-3 years in a high paced manufacturing environment; being a 2nd pressman with inline experience a plus.
  • Dependable
  • Working knowledge of color, registration, press procedures, press terminology, job flow, etc.
  • Basic math skills and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • A good team member who is open and interested in becoming a good team leader.
  • Work activity requires repetitive bending, walking, some climbing and occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
